There are an overwhelming number of options when it comes to fuel for your company. Luckily, for you, Moffitt Services is here to help! On the latest episode of our podcast, Fuel Disclosure, we sat down with Lorena McCalister. Lorena is the Field Marketing Advisor at Exxon Mobil who joined us to talk about Mobil Diesel Efficient Fuel: a product she supports throughout the entire country. We got the inside scoop on the product from Lorena, as well as discuss the varied benefits this type of diesel brings to your company! The full episode can be listened to here.
What Exactly is Diesel Fuel?
Diesel fuel, also known as diesel oil or simply diesel, is a liquid fossil fuel derived from crude oil through a refining process. It was named after Rudolf Diesel, the German inventor who developed the diesel engine in the late 19th century. Diesel exhibits different characteristics compared to gasoline, making it suitable for specific applications.
One of the key advantages of diesel lies in its superior energy density. Compared to gasoline, diesel contains more energy per unit volume, providing greater mileage and efficiency. This characteristic makes diesel engines highly suitable for heavy-duty applications, such as trucks, buses, locomotives, ships, and industrial machinery.
Diesel engines are renowned for their torque, which refers to the rotational force generated by the engine. This high torque output enables diesel-powered vehicles to pull heavy loads and perform demanding tasks efficiently. Industries such as construction, agriculture, and transportation heavily rely on diesel engines for their robustness and durability.
So What is Mobil Diesel Efficient Fuel?
Seems like an obvious way to start off such an interview, but we had to ask. “Mobil Diesel Efficient Fuel is essentially on spec (or on specification) diesel fuel that we all know and use today in all our diesel engines. The difference between unbranded diesel fuel (or regular fuel) and Mobil Diesel Efficient is that we actually provide a next-generation diesel fuel,” Lorena explained. “What that means to customers is that we additize it at the terminal, and that additive is actually a patented detergent additive that we blend into on spec diesel fuel to provide you some consistent benefits…” Unsurprisingly, companies like Exxon Mobil are constantly seeking ways to improve all types of diesel and give customers the most bang for their buck.
The Benefits
The additives to the fuel, blended in at the terminal, add a variety of benefits!
Clean Your Fuel Injectors
“The additive is actually a patented, multi-functional detergent,” Lorena explained. This means the diesel actually cleans the fuel injectors of your vehicle. “When you have clean fuel injectors, you actually have a much more efficient combustion of the engine.”
Greater Economy
Having clean, smooth running engine combustion means you’ll get better economy and miles-per-gallon. It’s no surprise that a well-maintained engine will run better that a poorly maintained one, after all!
Reduced CO2 Emissions
“This is a hot-button issue for many folks these days,” Lorena continued. Having a clean engine and injectors greatly reduces such emissions.
Reduced Nitrous Oxide Emissions
Similar to the CO2 Emissions above, clean engine parts lead to reduced nox emissions!
Less Unplanned Maintenance
Keeping your vehicles running safer and longer is always on the forefront of your mind as a fleet manager. Mobil Diesel Efficient greatly lessens the amount of unplanned maintenance for your fleet. This also prevents unwanted expenses, and allows your vehicles to get back to working for you!
